The Music of the Night

Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination
Silently the senses abandon their defenses

Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendor
Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender
Turn your face away from the garish light of day
Turn your thoughts away from cold unfeeling light
And listen to the music of the night

Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar
And you'll live as you've never lived before

Softly, deftly, music shall caress you
Hear it, feel it secretly possess you
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind
In this darkness that you know you cannot fight
The darkness of the music of the night

Let your mind start a journey to a strange new world
Leave all thoughts of the life you knew before
Let your soul take you where you long to be
Only then can you belong to me

Floating, falling, sweet intoxication
Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation
Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in
To the power of the music of that I write
The power of the music of the night

You alone can make my song take flight
Help me make the music of the night

The Three Kings Legend

The Three Kings Legend
Once known as the hem of the desert itself
opened the hand of the Lord
as a fruit that summer
announces its core,
there was a miracle: Remote
recognized and greeted each other
three kings and a star.
Three kings of the road
and the star Everywhere
who moved all
so right and left Rex Rex
a silent barn.
What brought not everything
to the stable of Bethlehem!
Well explained every step wrong,
and rode a black horse,
sat velvety and comfortable.
And went to his right,
who was a golden man,
and started on his left
with momentum and swing
and sound and Kling
of a round silver thing,
hanging weighing and rings,
all blue to smoke.
Since the star laughed Everywhere
so strange about it,
and ran before, and stood at the barn
and said to Mary:
I bring a wandering
from many strangers here.
Three Kings with stomach force,
of gold and topaz difficult
and dark, tumb and pagan way,
dismayed me too much.
You have all three zuhaus
twelve daughters, a son,
they ask from your
as their sun sky blue
and comfort to her throne.
But do not you have to believe the same: only
a glitter prince and heath Sheikh
is thy son's fate.
Bedenk, the way is great.
You walk long shepherd same,
now falls to her mature Empire
God knows whom in his lap.
And while here, such as West Wind warm,
the ox umschnaubt her ear,
they are perhaps all poor
and as no head.
Drum do with your smile light
the confusion, they are,
and you set your face
after emergence and your child;
there is blue lines,
what every you left:
Smaragda and Rubinien
and the Tale of turquoise.

Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926)
