From the joy and sorrow

Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the same well, rising from which your laughter,
was often filled with your tears.
And how could it be otherwise?
The deeper the sorrow carves into your being,
the more joy you can grasp it.
Is not the cup that contains your wine,
the same vessel, which was burned in the potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit,
the same wood that was hollowed with knives?
If you are happy, look deep into your hearts,
and you will find that only that
what made you prepare sorry, you are also fun.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart,
and you will see that the truth is crying for this,
what made you you pleasure.
Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorry".
And others say: "No, suffering is greater."
But I tell you, they are inseparable.
They come together and when one sits alone with you at the table,
remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.
Indeed, as the scales of a balance
it is between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
If the treasure holder lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver,
must either increase or decrease your joy or your sorrow or.
